about Retford

The historic Georgian market town of Retford (also known as East Retford) lies within north Nottinghamshire close to the borders with South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire within the Bassetlaw District and provides a diverse range of amenities, facilities and services, including shopping, restaurants, cafes and public houses.

Retford received its first charter in 1246 by Henry III and was later extended by Edward I to holding a weekly market, an occasion which is still held today as well as a popular monthly farmers market.

The River Idle and the Chesterfield Canal run through Retford town, with the town centre boasting a delightful market square encompassed by fine Georgian buildings along with the award winning Kings Park.
Within easy commuting distance are the 15th Century port of Bawtry and the market town of Gainsborough, providing a wider range of facilities, boutique shops, restaurants and public houses.
